Questions about Addiction Counseling

“The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is today.” ~ Chinese Proverb

How do I make an appointment?

I offer daytime, evening and weekend appointments.

Before I schedule an appointment with you, I ask that we take the time for a telephone consultation. In this call, I can get to know some of the things that might prove helpful in the process, including what prompted you to seek counseling, your treatment history (if any) and how I might help.  If my areas of specialization do not fit your problem, I will do my best to help you find a therapist in the area who is well suited to meet your needs.

What are your fees? Do you offer a sliding scale?

My fee for a 50-minute session is $150. In order to make treatment accessible to the greatest number of people, a sliding scale is offered. Patients play a large role in determining how much they are able to pay. Those who can pay more make it possible for others to get the care they need. Payment may be made with cash, check or credit card and is due at the time service is provided.

Do you take insurance?

While many therapists are comfortable forming relationships with insurance companies, I never have been. However, you may be eligible for reimbursement if you have health insurance. Many companies will consider me to be an out-of-network provider, and you should ask your insurance company the following questions:

  • Do I have mental health/substance abuse benefits?
  • What is my deductible and has it been met?
  • How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?
  • How much does my plan cover for an out-of-network provider?
  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
  • Is approval required from my primary care physician?
